Working with the energetic qualities of water enables you to more fully open up to and receive grace, fluidity, sensuality and emotional healing in your life.
Below are several experiences for you to engage in to invite the cleansing & nurturing qualities of water into your home, body and awareness.
Feng Shui encourages a healthy balance of water energy in your home to optimize the flow of chi (life force energy) throughout all aspects of your life. Too little water energy in your home encourages stagnation and a lack of passion, while too much promotes spaciness and excessive mood swings.
Feng Shui Exercise: Go through your house, room by room, and see how water energy shows up in each space. It is good to have one sacred water element in each room (see list below). As you go through this exercise, clean areas that need cleaned, fix leaking faucets and integrate water elements as needed to invite the intention of healthy flow in your life.
Bathroom Cleaning Ritual
The bathroom is the room in the house associated with the water element and the Sacral Chakra. Whether it is taking a bath, brushing your teeth or flushing wastes out of your body, most of your actions in this room revolve around the cleansing aspect of water.
Here is an exercise to honor the importance of this room in your home and celebrate the cleansing medicine of the Water Element.
Make an appointment to clean your bathroom. Set aside a sacred block of time to clean everything; not only the obvious things such as the sink, toilet and tub, but all the fixtures, the floor boards, underneath the sink and in the medicine cabinet. Rather then approaching this experience as a chore, use this as an opportunity to create an embodied experience that has the potential to bring healing into your life. It’s all about intention.
As you are cleaning, make an intention to wash away all that is no longer needed. Not only are you washing away the grim in the physical realm, but also washing away any old feelings, thoughts and emotions that no longer serve your highest good.
Experience the movement of your body as you clean; the expansion and contraction of your muscles as you scrub. You may even break a sweat which is great, this is a sign you are releasing toxins and cleansing from the inside out.
When you are done cleaning and start to put things back on the counters and shelves, make sure everything has a purpose. It’s good to leave the countertops as clutter free as possible so energy can flow freely throughout the space. To balance the water element of your bathroom, add elements of earth and fire; this can be done by adding plants, candles or wooden picture frames. It is good Feng Shui to keep the mirrors clean so every time you look in them you are seeing a clear reflection of yourself.
To keep the healing effects of your cleansing intentions, when you take a shower or bath, use this as an opportunity to wash away any toxic patterns in your body or mind that need to be released. Consciously release them into the cleansing waters and baptize yourself in the purity of newness.
